Stainshield Professional is a general purpose fabric protector. This water-based protectant can be applied to virtually any type of water-cleanable carpet, rug or upholstery. Stainshield is based on fluoro chemistry and this feature protects fabrics against both water and oil based spill. Silicone protectors, by contrast, are effective only against watery spills. The repellency gives the owner of the carpet or furniture extra time to blot spills before they become stains.

Treatment of upholstered furniture is particularly important because of the frequent contact with body oils that would otherwise soil the fabric. These body oils, especially from pets become smelly and quite difficult to remove. Beyond providing protection against spills, the residues left by Stainshield make vacuuming easier and more efficient thus providing additional protection from dry particulate damage.
